May 10, 2012 – With Canada’s Ambassador to the United States Gary Doer, Centrallia’s Honorary Chair Gail Asper and about 250 Manitoba business leaders looking on, the formation of Team Manitoba was announced last night at McPhillips Station Casino by Mariette Mulaire, President and CEO of ANIM, and Dave Angus, President and CEO of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce. Team Manitoba will represent the province at the upcoming Centrallia 2012 in October and already counts some of Manitoba’s leading companies as its roster, including stalwarts such as Motor Coach Industries, Prendiville Industries, Protegra and Magellan Aerospace.

“Already over 80 companies have signed on to Team Manitoba, and we’re hoping to grow that number to about 200 by Centrallia 2012,” said Mulaire. “We were most pleased to be able to have Ambassador Doer, Manitoba’s former Premier, with us tonight to welcome these early inductees to Team Manitoba.”

First held in Winnipeg in 2010, Centrallia is a global business matchmaking event designed specifically for companies looking to increase their international trade. In 2010 a total of 602 business leaders came from over 40 world economic regions to participate in the hugely successful event. The 2012 edition of the event is anticipated to be even bigger.

“We’re asking Team Manitoba members to become business ambassadors for our province, not only at Centrallia, but also during the course of their normal international business dealings,” said Mulaire.

Mulaire says that Team Manitoba and Centrallia are all part of a larger provincial focus to increase Manitoba’s competitiveness on the world stage, a focus that also saw the recent announcement of a new bilingual World Trade Centre for Winnipeg.

“There are a number of bold initiatives under way in Manitoba to enhance business and trade opportunities for our business community. Centrallia will become the signature trade event for Winnipeg’s new bilingual WTC, and Team Manitoba will be in the lead making sure that the province presents well.”
